Food prices were flat in February 2020. After seasonal adjustment, they were up 0.3 percent. The average price of food in the United States rose 1.8% in the 12 months ended February, matching each of the two prior increases, according to the latest inflation data published March 11, 2020 by the U.S. Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics . Food inflation is a major part of the Consumer Price Index. Strong rallies in vegetable oils, sugar and dairy markets pushed up the overall value of the Index to its highest level since December 2014.

Prices for Food, 1913-2020 ($20) According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, prices for food were 2,534.93% higher in 2020 versus 1913 (a $506.99 difference in value)..
